"Red" States take more in federal funds than they put in

Fiscal Facts

"Blue" states don't. Explain. Why do they accept all that charity?

Powell: Iraq is `getting worse' (wait... is he calling Allawi a LIAR?)

Yahoo! News - Powell: Iraq is `getting worse'

Bonus Question: Who gets Powell's job after the election? Here's hoping we don't find out.

Division in the US

We cannot remain so polar and divided in this country. That is the way to civil war. Now... let me repeat, civil war is not acceptable. Look at Iraq to note that it only takes a minority of violently pissed off people (or greedy people or ...) to make EVERYONE miserable. A civil war could not be won, probably not be survived, in the sense that the US would not be the US we love any more.

People need some backbone... so there is a liberal or conservative with opinions that just drive you mad, make you cuss at dinner. Um, that's just your soft feet complaining... you have it TOO nice if you can't realize that you are enjoying a luxery when such positions have time to occupy your mind.

We need to remember all the issues that bind us, and there are many. If you don't think so... I'm talking to you. I could tell you some, but that would be cheating.

"I live in America, which is nice, safe and secure."

That's what Bush said today in the press conference with Allawi. That's nice... but when did the Terror Alert Level get moved down to Green... I missed it. Am I not supposed to be very very alert any more? Currently, the country is at "significant risk of terrorist attack" and the alert is elevated.

War on Terror Bin Laden

Also... I was really looking forward to Osama getting "smoked out" of them hills, like promised. What happened? Bush said it was a "number one priority" to get him "dead or alive" and now he says Bin Laden just isn't that important and he doesn't think about it much (and speaks about it even less... was he mentioned once at the RNC? Not by President W Bush). That is some flip flop. Why oh why does anything think this guy is skilled at the war on terror? Sure, he feels that war, he wants that war, but in what way is he GOOD at it? Skills Matter.

War on Terror(ism)

I do not understand, mother, why you think that Bush is better to fight terrorism. Bottom line... the idea that if it feels good it is good is supposed to be a liberal notion, not a conservative one, so while it feels good to bomb people that hate us, that doesn't mean it's working.

To see if it's working you have to look at the fact, not the feelings. Fact is, according to our State Department, which is a part of the Bush Admin itself, there was more terrorism in 2003 than 2002. Who cares if it's going to feel good to unload a can of whoopass in 2005 if Bush is reelected? I don't care how it feels. I care how it works.

Are conservatives really the touchy-feely ones?

Godless World?

I heard Rush Limbaugh today claim that when Bush spoke of "God" before the UN that the UN was godless, and didn't like that sort of thing. The UN is godless. Is that it? The rest of the world is godless, they don't like references to God? I WISH!

I'm getting really tired of this demonization, which I see as a drive to civil war. That's right, I see it as setting up the justification for exterminations, for purges, for violent solutions. Let's not go there.

But don't mistake my peaceful nature for an unwillingness to fight. I understand the sweet mental simplicity of forgetting one's notebooks full of tattered arguments and just rolling the bullets! I see it, I'm just smarter than it. But those that think certainly they would win that battle because they are more fierce and want it more... why, those are called Al Queda. bring it on?

Where're my robot underlings?

I envision are futrure with robots doing all the work. All. I'm talking even building the robots. There will be some computer and robotics engineers probably but that's it. Of course you'd need robotic experts in every field... e.g. robotic engineers with medical doctorates to at least monitor the robot economy. Some people might find that lazy and even reprehensible... as if it means only that I would like a life of liesure, but it doesn't mean only that ... no, I IMAGINE AN ACTUAL DAY when robots do all the work and people just art around and swim. Smoke cigars and fall off mountains, both at the same time. As I say, some see this as a slothfull dream, akin to a promise of reward distracting on from one's present condition, but nay! These are people that said, "oh, don't pipe the water to my home... 'tis better to haul the water up from the river and get typhoid." What I'm saying is if you turn down the robot workers then you are going to get the equivalent of typhoid.

Supporting the Troops Part II

This report from the Rocky Mountain News claims that some soldiers have been threatened, either re-enlist for 3 more years or be deployed to Iraq. Subtitle: trying to delay a draft.

Article Here

Supporting the Troops

Just a philosophic question. Is a chart like this treason? Is it supporting the troops to notice the rate at which they are dying... or is supporting the troops to ignore this... know that they are doing their duty by dying, besides, they get Purple Hearts for it which leads to great respect when/if they get back home.

I'm sorry, until Mom posts I'm probably going to get snarkier and snarkier.

"A Vote For Kerry is a Vote For Death!"

"[I]t's absolutely essential that eight weeks from today, on November 2nd, we make the right choice. Because if we make the wrong choice, then the danger is that we'll get hit again, that we'll be hit in a way that will be devastating from the standpoint of the United States, and that we'll fall back into the pre-9/11 mind set if you will, that in fact these terrorist attacks are just criminal acts, and that we're not really at war." - Cheney, Sep 2004

Well, the fear mongering about Kerry can be set aside, since it's not really different than democrats saying we are less safe now. It's a really impolitic way of putting the same old same old, "vote for me I'll protect you".

The part that bugs me: I find it mildly offensive that Cheney would say "just a crime", as if waging "war" is more important than preventing crime... if taken literally what does that tell you?

Fact is... a criminal that kills 3000 people at a time is a pretty serious threat. More serious than Iraq even. Saying we need to fight the war, that that is more important, is a way of saying "so it's ok to let Bin Laden (the criminal) go" which is exactly what we did.

If it's a crime, we hunt down the criminals, wherever they go, if it's just a war... we fight whomever we want and build bases in Iraq ---- while the crime continues.

Republicans! Evil Plot Alert

Well, I didn't put much credence in this during the primary, but as a lot of Republicans still think it, I guess it's probably true.

Well... it turns out that Hillary (and Bill, Hilliam Clinton for short) don't want a democrat in the White House in 2004 (or even the start of 2005 after the inaguration). Why? Because that screws up Hillary's chance to run in 2008 (and presumably Bill's chance for that sweet Ambassador to Amazonia gig).

So there is only one thing the truly forward looking PIAPSaphobic Republican to do:

Vote Kerry.

Rev. Moon

I cannot vouch for this site... but I really dislike Rev. Moon, the Moonies and I really think the Republicans ought to repudiate this cult leader and stop coddling him. I think no one should take any of the "news" from his properties seriously, REGARDLESS of any objective validity. That's right, when it comes to Moon I support guilt by association!

Cheney Goes Too Far

Um... we don't all agree in this country, and we're not splitting it. And moreover republicans don't really want to. The "red" states take more federal money than the blue... so what exactly are you going to do..? Well, you have to want it all. To do that you have to say "don't elect a president that will allow a major terrorist strike on his watch!!!!!"

ABCNEWS.com : Cheney Warns Against Vote for Kerry

But Mr. Cheney... your's is the only administration under which this nation ever suffered such a strike. Do you really think it's credible to say it can only happen on a Democrat's watch? When I am afraid, really afraid... it doesn't make me want to vote for Cheney.

Hating America

America is the way it is... love it or leave it. It has half liberals, half conservatives... take it... don't be a political girly-man.

Actually, it's half liberals AND conservatives, and half "huh?! look, it's someone famous!"

Traitors

I tell you what, I'm a little sick of how easily people throw around the word traitor, especially the right. It's cheapening the term, it's desensitizing us to the crime. Is this it's point? So you can out a CIA agent, which really is treasonous, and just sluff it off as politics?

Mom, with all due respect, Zell Miller can kiss my ass... George Bush has called our forces in Iraq "occupiers" and Dick Cheney can speak to those that don't care because those of us that do care KNOW that he and Bush also have talked about being sensitive in the war on terror, for example, not blowing the hell out of that shrine in Najaf, but he takes a cheap shot anyway because the idiots that barely follow politics are well aware which "side" is supposedly the "sensitive" girly-man type.

Now on Chris Matthews dueling Zell Miller. That's fine with me. Win win!

You thought when the republicans were talking about the "coalition of the wild eyed" that was meant an insult? You have not been paying attention. "Righteous Anger" is, for many, the highest of ideals.
